Do-it-Yourself Energy Efficiency Party - Sept. 12 - 9am-noon
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Join us for a truly "constructive" morning learning how to make our own homes more energy efficient. The event will be at my home this Saturday, Sept. 12 from 9am to noon. Space is limited so please RSVP to me by responding to this e-mail and I'll send directions. Here is a bit more about the party...
"My goal is to show you what the average homeowner can do with their own two little hands to save lots of money on energy and make their home considerably more comfortable. At the party, we will discuss the following:
1. Is your basement cold in the summer?
2. Is the upstairs hot in the summer?
3. Do you have an attic fan? Do you have it sealed?
4. How to use your attic fan as a testing instrument.
5. When the heating/cooling is running, does the basement door go closed?
6. Does your home get dusty quickly?
Then we'll look at:
A. Duct leakage - you'll learn how to seal it.
Research shows a normal home looses a minimum of 25% of it's
Conditioned air through the holes in the ductwork.
B. Rim joists (the area above the basement wall)
This is a BIG leak area - fiberglass does not stop air movement.
Fiberglass is always black around the edges.
We'll use foam board and foam to insulate and stop air movement.
C. We'll look at vents. I'll show you how to get the air out into the living area.
These are all things the average homeowner can do for very little money and save money on their utility bills."
Platte County has first "Green" home
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, not really, just the first home built under the County's new Green Build Program. Platte County adopted the program to incent green building in 2007, and the first permit goes to Golden Key Construction, owned by Duane Soper for a private residence. The builder receives partial refunds of their building permit fees and other recognitions for compliance with Green Build standards.
