MOSEIA forms in Missouri

The solar industry in Missouri has formed a Solar Energy Industry Association in response to the passage of Prop C in last Novermber's election. Prop C requires investor owned utilities to source 15% of their electricity from renewables, 2% of which must come from Solar. It also mandates a $2/watt solar rebate for residential and commercial solar installations beginning Jan, 2010. In addition, the utilities will want to purchase Renewable Energy Credits from these installations. We'll have more specifics when rulemaking is finished at the Public Service Commission.
Current solar installers in Missouri have formed this association to ensure high quality installations, fair competition, and consumer/installer education.

EPA notified Sunflower Electric that it must start over the permitting process for the Holcomb, KS power plant that was allowed to move forward in a compromise between the Kansas Legislature and new Gov. Mark Parkinson in May. The significance is that this will take time, at least 18 months, and public comment. More info

One of the largest solar arrays in the region was recently installed in St. Joseph, MO at the Air National Guard Base. The 30 kilowatt array consists of 135 panels and will provide enough power for the equivalent of 3 or 4 average households. Funded by the Stimulus, this project created local jobs and used American made solar panels.
