KS Gov. signs bill for Net Metering and More
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gov. Mark Parkinson's compromise bill to allow construction of a single coal plant at Holcomb also includes a goal for utilities to generate 20% of their power from renewables by 2020 and allows utility customers who generate their own electricity to sell it back to their electric provider. Only applies to investor owned utilities - KCP&L, Westar, and Empire.
Energy Efficiency Legislation passes in MO
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The
2009 Energy Efficiency Investment Act
has been sent to Gov. Nixon to sign. This legislation will allow MO utilities to earn an equal rate of return on efficiency investments as they do for new generation - like building coal plants. This is truly exciting and you should see new efficiency offerings from your utilities (KCP&L, Ameren, and Empire) in the coming years! Western Extralite Installs Solar Wall
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Western Extralite recently installed a Solar Wall at their Manhattan, KS warehouse. The wall will passively heats air harvested from the south side of the building and then distributes it into the facility using a fan and duct sock. This technology has the lowest payback of any solar technology - 6-8 years depending on fuel costs.
The Energy Savings Store,
Prairie Village, KS provided installation services.
KS Interfaith Power & Light Speaker - Richard Cizik - May 26
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Evangelicals as a group haven't exactly been cutting edge when it comes to climate change, but they had an amazing representative who worked to change the movement from the inside - Rev. Richard Cizik - former VP of the National Assn. of Evangelicals.
He will be at the Church of the Resurrection on May 26, 7pm in Leawood, KS to speak about "Creation Care".
