Kansas Clean Energy Day 2 - Topeka, KS - Mar. 19
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rally with the Governor and meet with legislators in Topeka at the Capitol on Mar. 19 - 11am-2pm to ask for a "clean vote on clean energy". Legislation is again being pushed that will allow for the 2 coal-burning power plants at Holcomb. As an enticement, they have bundled the proposal together with a renewable energy standard, net metering and other carrots in HB 2014. The bill passed out of the House with a non-veto proof majority last week and is on to the Senate. More info here.
Missouri CWIP Update
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A MO House Committee voted last week to send the CWIP bill repealing consumer protections for building new power generation to the full House for a vote. Jay Nixon has vowed to veto the bill. Ameren UE, St. Louis's utility, has put forth the legislation in order to finance plans for a new nuclear reactor in Calloway County, MO. More info here and here.

MO Energy Efficiency Legislation
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CCPC, Sierra Club and KCPL agreed to promote energy efficiency legislation together when we signed the agreement allowing the Iatan 2 power plant to move forward. The legislation got no where last year so we are trying again this year with KCPL behind SB 376. The idea is to give the utilities positive incentives that make efficiency profitable for them while still lowering customers' bills. SB 376 only benefits the utilities so we are encouraging KCPL to change it. We are confident we will be able to support a revised version.
Westar boosting wind, KCPL hesitating
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Two interesting headlines in the KC Star last month:

Westar aims for major boost of wind energy

Some are frustrated that KCPL hasn't pushed harder to add green energy
