Support the Clean Energy Initiative

Missouri needs a forward thinking energy policy - one that focuses on producing jobs in a clean energy economy. Recognizing the need to secure a clean energy future, volunteers and petitioners gathered 170,000 signatures to put the Clean Energy Initiative on the November 2008 ballot in Missouri. On November 4th, voters across the state will decide whether Missouri should move forward with a Clean Energy Initiative.

Join the growing list of people supporting the Clean Energy Initiative. The Clean Energy Initiative requires all Missouri investor-owned electric utilities (Ameren, Empire, Aquila, and KCP&L) to get 15% of their electricity from renewable sources by 2021. Renewables are defined as clean sources of energy like wind, solar, landfill gas, biomass, and small hydroelectric projects. Twenty-five states have already passed a similar policy often known as a "Renewable Electricity Standard" (RES). In Missouri, elected officials have introduced, but failed to pass, an RES for the last 8 consecutive years. This year, with your support, the strong majority of Missourians who support this important policy will have a chance to make it happen.

Bad Year For Platte County Development

By JOHN SHULTZ , KC Star
Though Platte County is unquestionably growing - with urbanization moving deeper into the area's rural swathes - it's been a bad and litigious year so far for proposed development.
Three of the bigger projects put before county leaders this year have hit significant hurdles. One, the nearly 700 homes of the Lake at Tomahawke Ridge, was withdrawn after facing significant neighborhood opposition, though the developers promise it will return.
And two, Beverly Plaza's commercial development and the Brentwood Parc neighborhood, were outright shot down by the county commission. The developers of both have filed lawsuits against the county.

Volunteers Needed - Platte County Household Hazardous Waste Event

August 16th, is the Platte County Household Hazardous Waste Mobile Event. The event will be from 8AM to noon at the Platte Ridge Park. We need approximately 8 volunteers to help with the event. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Tasks will include unloading materials from cars, taking surveys, and directing traffic. It will hopefully be a busy day out in the sun so volunteers should expect to sweat. We are going to provide breakfast, lunch, and refreshments. Help with food or beverages would be wonderful. Call Daniel Erickson at 858-3368.
