Federal Energy Bill might get vote this week



The House is planning a vote the first week of December on a version of the energy bill that contains increases in vehicle fuel economy and a requirement for a 15% renewable energy standard. Gov. Matt Blunt of Missouri was the only Gov. in the Midwestern Governor's Assn. to not sign the Regional GHG Reduction Accord. He has signed the Greater KC Climate Protection Partnership.


KC Area Mayors Sustainability & Climate Protection Conference



Nov 2 -A large group of Kansas City Metro Mayors (between 15 and 20, including the Mayors of KC, Parkville, Riverside, NKC, Liberty and Gladstone) signed the U.S. Conference of Mayors Climate Protection Agreement. Greater KC Chamber Coordinates Climate Protection Partnership



Not to be left out, KC area businesses are getting involved in the 'Green' action. The Chamber recently unveiled its Climate Protection Partnership agreement and has close to 100 businesses already signed on. KCMO's Million Lights Campaign Surpasses Goal



The Million Lights Campaign, a joint project among the City of Kansas City, Mo., Kansas City Power & Light and other local companies to conserve energy and save energy costs, has surpassed its goal of replacing 1 million standard light bulbs with energy-efficient models in the Kansas City area. More than 1,142,000 compact fluorescent lights have been purchased and distributed since the campaign's inception in October 2006.


Appeals filed in Sunflower Power Plant Permit Denial



Sunflower and others are appealing the decision to deny permits for their proposed power plants near Holcomb, KS. The Kansas Supreme Court has agreed to hear two of the appeals. Supporters of the plant in the Kansas Legislature are also expected to press for laws that will allow construction. http://www.kansas.com/news/updates/story/241381.htmlSupreme.

Energy Efficiency Forums - Dec. 13, 17 or 19
Please join KCP&L, Sierra Club, Concerned Citizens of Platte County
and others at the Kansas City Energy Efficiency Forum 2.0 on one of three dates: December 13th, 17th or 19th. The forum is a follow up to the first successful Energy Efficiency Forum held in September. Information will be shared from the earlier stakeholder groups and we will discuss potential legislation for MO and KS - enabling energy efficiency legislation for utilities, protecting consumers, and other possible EE initiatives.
