Permit Denied for Sunflower Power Plants in Holcomb, KS
In a stunning decision, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment Secretary Rod Bremby, denied the permit for the proposed plants near Holcomb, KS. This is the first permit in the nation denied due to concerns about global warming gas emissions. Annual emissions of carbon would have been 11 million tons each year. Gov. Sebelius who originally thought the plants were a good idea supported the decision. Although the decision will be challenged in court, it opens up the possibility of economic development throughout the entire state with a focus on clean, renewable wind energy. http://www2.ljworld.com:80/news/2007/oct/18/kdhe_rejectsapproves_coal_plants_western_kansas/
