KCP&L Update
Our agreement with KCP&L (view at www.ccpcmo.org) contained many areas where we committed to work together in order to reduce global warming gas emissions from their system by 20% by 2020. We have been meeting with KCP&L staff to discuss each of these areas - landfill, energy efficiency, wind, net metering, and legislation. These meetings have been surprisingly constructive. More updates to come.
KC Breaks Federal Ozone Standards
June 15's heat and humidity pushed Kansas City over its pollution limit, an event that will have long-reaching and potentially very costly effects. Officials had feared for more than three years that the area was on the verge of violating the federal Clean Air Act, which triggers a series of events including possible fines and strictures on businesses and industry, and to a lesser extent on individuals. Complying with the law will most likely cost the area billions of dollars, officials have said. 6/15/07, Karen Dillon, KC Star.

Federal Legislation
The U.S. Senate has passed an energy bill that includes an increase in fuel economy standards but no renewable energy standard. The House of Representatives is expected to pass energy legislation in July. The House energy bill must establish a national Renewable Energy Standard and require higher fuel economy standards. Let your representatives know how you feel.
