Missouri Legislation

The CAFO Bill was finally defeated! Local county control of Confined Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) remains in place. The Easy Connect Act passed! Homeowners in Missouri that install wind and solar systems can now easily connect to the grid and are credited at a one-to-one ratio for electricity "sold" back to the utility. Renewable Energy Standards passed - sort of. This law encourages (not requires) Missouri utilities generate 11% of their electricity from renewables by 2020. A few of our utilities are already meeting this incredibly low target and other states are far more aggressive with their renewable requirements. For more info visit www.renewmo.org

Federal Legislation

In the House - The Federal Renewable Electricity Standard (RES) - HR 969 - would require all investor-owned utilities buy an increasing portion of their electricity from renewable resources - 20% by 2020. Senator Bingaman is also planning an RES amendment for the Senate. Please contact your Federal Representative and Senators about this important legislation

Platte Profile 2020

Platte County has started the process to update the long-range plan for the county with a 32 person Citizen Planning Team. The team will meet over the next 6 months with adoption by the commission slated for early 2008. Citizen input will be generated via public hearings and focus groups. Areas of discussion include growth patterns, economic development, transportation, infrastructure, parks and recreation, public safety, human services and citizen participation. I am on the Planning Team and am very interested in your thoughts about the direction of Platte County. Please contact me at sbrown816@gmail.com with your ideas.

Platte County Green Build

The Platte County Green Build committee continues to meet monthly with a goal of a final ordinance proposal this fall. The meetings are open to the public. Contact me at sbrown816@gmail.com if you would like to attend.
